I used PowerPoint to design this poster using a triadic colour combination. The fonts are Candara (title) and Gill Sans MT (questions/body).

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really like your poster. It's simple, easy to read and the contrasting colors, made it eye catching!
Your questions were well thought out, and would help any teacher evaluate their technology. I really like the emphasis on choosing technology that teaches transferable skills, and is accessible to all.
Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great poster. I like that the questions have been organized around the middle of the poster which conveys the purpose of the poster. The question that I liked the most is the one asking "Is the amount of class time spent learning the technology justified by the frequency of its use or transferability?" This is a very meaningful question to ask because teachers should be creating lessons that help students on their journey as lifelong learners.

ReplyDeleteThere were two things that appealed to me about your poster. The first was the nature of your questions. They considered outcome in relation to the required investment and also accessibility for students. These are both important factors when deciding on the level of tech investment. The second thing that worked for me was the simplicity. I found that I was able to easily understand the message because the poster didn't have too many visual distractions.

ReplyDeleteWow, Sarah! This is an awesome colour combination to make your poster! I thought that making a poster on powerpoint was super difficult but, you have totally broken my stereotype! This is so effective. I love that we have a very similar question on how this learning is transferable and creative. I find that it's important that the learning continues as my philosophy as a teacher is to become a lifelong learner :)

ReplyDeleteI love the orange and purple combination. It's inviting, and the orange really gets your attention to the center of the slide. I especially like your question on whether the technology can help students demonstrate their learning in a creative and transferable way. I feel that it is one of the most important things to think about, when looking at different technological tools. We often need to ask ourselves, why are we using this technology tool.

ReplyDeleteI am really drawn to your poster. The fonts, the colours, the layout - well done!
Your top left question is so important. I've found that going through some of the activities in the TL courses at Queen's that I've spent more time trying to get the tech to work properly and less on the actual content that I'm supposed to be learning! It's a fine balance between onboarding a new technology to enhance learning and spending too much time on it that the learning gets overshadowed with our students.
Hi Fabian! Yes, I've had that problem too, and in my Queens courses. I recall earlier in my career I wasted days teaching students how to use this video app (I can't even remember what it was called), so that we could make a Heritage Minute, they made their videos, and then we never used it again. Nowadays, I'd probably just tell them to use an Instagram reel to do the exact same thing.
